How the matter was handled
Our client needed to know whether the INTERPOL Information System held any data about him coming from Spain. Those files are not searchable online: the request goes in writing to the body that holds them.
That body is the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files, the independent body that oversees those data and the only one that can answer. We filed the request for access and kept up the correspondence from March 2026.
The answer came in August, five months later: having contacted the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Spain, the Commission stated that, as at that date, no data from Spain about our client was recorded in the Information System.
The letter describes the position on that date, and says so itself: the Commission reaches INTERPOL data, not national files or proceedings, which rest with each national authority. It is exactly what our client needed in writing, and not one word more.
Every case is unique: it depends on its facts, its evidence and the authority deciding it. The outcome of one matter does not anticipate the outcome of any other, and the timescales given here are the ones that particular file took: they are set by the authorities, not by us.
