Immigration · Student stay

Long-term student stay, granted for five years

The decision

How the matter was handled

A long-term stay authorisation for studies is the permit that allows someone to live in Spain for the length of their studies. This file was an initial application, for university studies, lodged with the Madrid Immigration Office.

We prepared the application with the documents evidencing each requirement and filed it in August 2026. The decision records it in these words: on examining the documents provided, “it is established that the requirements laid down” in Organic Law 4/2000 and its Regulation are met.

The Government Delegation in Madrid granted it in October 2026: 71 days between filing and signature. The authorisation runs for five years, from August 2026 to August 2031.

Besides studying, it allows the holder to work, as an employee or self-employed, with no further procedure, provided the work is compatible with the studies and does not exceed thirty hours a week, and to do curricular internships. The decision itself sets out the next step: the appointment for the TIE card is assigned automatically by the National Police, who notify it by text message or email.

Every case is unique: it depends on its facts, its evidence and the authority deciding it. The outcome of one matter does not anticipate the outcome of any other, and the timescales given here are the ones that particular file took: they are set by the authorities, not by us.
