How the matter was handled
A residence permit obtained through family reunification was coming to an end. A renewal does not settle itself: what holds the permit up — the family link and the sponsor’s own requirements — has to be evidenced again, and within the deadline, with the documents required by Organic Law 4/2000 and the Regulation approved by Royal Decree 1155/2024. If the renewal fails, the whole residence falls with it.
We assembled the file, checked piece by piece that nothing was missing and lodged the application with the Madrid Immigration Office in August 2026.
The Government Delegation in Madrid decided in September 2026: 13 days from filing. It granted the renewal for four years.
The permit runs from September 2026 to September 2030 and allows the holder to work, as an employee or self-employed, with no further administrative step. Four years in which family life no longer hangs on an expiry date.
Every case is unique: it depends on its facts, its evidence and the authority deciding it. The outcome of one matter does not anticipate the outcome of any other, and the timescales given here are the ones that particular file took: they are set by the authorities, not by us.
